Systems in Action
Article Abstract:
AT&T Technologies has installed a completely automatic electronic document image filing and retrieval system in it's accounts payable department at a substantial savings in the cost of information processing. The system has eliminated 500 square feet of file space, reduced filing backlog by ninety-five percent, reduced accounts payable personnel by twenty percent, and resulted in a monetary savings estimated at $62,000 per year. The system, developed by Ragen Information Systems, can retrieve documents in either hard or soft copy in a completely 'hands-off' operation. Ragen Storage and Retrieval (SAR) Modules can store up to 1.2 million page images and can be combined to use up to 128 SARs in a single system.

Article Abstract:
A study by GTE Sprint Communications Corporation revealed that on-site micrographics equipment, capable of increasing the turnaround time for producing microfiche, could be obtained for monthly purchase payments less than what a service bureau charges. Sprint has installed two Komstar 200 microimage processors and plans to install others across the United States. The processor, used primarily for handling invoices, produces four by six-inch microfiche records, each of which holds 1,067 invoice pages. The Komstar outputs 10,000 pages per hour.
