AT&T and IBM Gear Up for Battle in Supermicro Market
Article Abstract:
AT&T and IBM have introduced supermicrocomputers which will be in direct competition. IBM has the Baby 36 and AT&T has released the 3B2. IBM reportedly pushed the Baby 36 into the market to stop the 3B2. According to an International Resource Development report, supermicro sales were stimulated by easy installation, shared data bases, large storage capacities and advanced software. Integration into offices will generate even more sales although these will only benefit AT&T and IBM. It may be impossible for AT&T to produce a sufficient amount of supermicros to match IBM. A table of the global market is included.
