Toshiba concentrates on low-temperature TFT LCDs
Article Abstract:
Toshiba Corp. is spending Y50 billion to build a production line for low-temperature polysilicon thin-film transistor (TFT) LCDs in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. The line is expected to begin mass production at the end of 1998 with a monthly capacity of 100,000 panels. Low-temperature polysilicon TFT LCDs have large aperature areas and provide mechanical strength five to seven times greater than that of amorphous silicon TFT LCDs. The LCDs also have less parts because low-temperature processes allow engineers to integrate the driver ICs directly onto the glass substrate.
