2025: some expert views on what to expect in the first 25 years of the new century

Marine industry executives believe that the future of the boat building industry will depend not only on the industry itself but on the type of customers that will emerge. As the Internet grows, it is predicted to have an even more important role to play in consumer education and in changing their shopping style. At the same time, the changing lifestyles are also expected to affect the way a marina operates as well as the services that it offers.

Fast-changing world of e-commerce

Article Abstract:

The number of marine industry electronic commerce firms is not expected to increase and their numbers could be limited to only two or three firms as a result of the shakeout in the stock market which adversely affected technology and Internet stocks. Researchers at Forrest Research Inc have opined that poor financials, intensifying competition and investor aversion will cause the failure of the majority of dot-com retailers by 2001.

Genmar targets high-tech boatbuilding

Article Abstract:

Genmar Holdings Inc has strengthened its position in the boatbuilding industry by creating the position of senior vp of technology and by appointing Harvard-trained chemist Steven J Kubisen to fill this role. Kubisen will be in charge of Genmar's development of manufacturing processes and his expertise with composites is expected to enhance the strength and consistency of materials used in their aluminum and fiber glass boats.
