A unique opportunity
Article Abstract:
The home medical equipment (HME) business developed in the early 1970s and experienced a boom in the early 1980s, when Medicare's Part B payment system was implemented. Projections indicate that Part B spending will grow 11.4% annually through 2004. Providers of HME services should work closely with others involved in home care, to assure that appropriate patient care is provided in the most appropriate setting.

An important dialog
Article Abstract:
Home medical equipment (HME) providers should be involved early in the process of designing equipment for a disabled patient. It may be best for the HME provider to provide input through the case manager. Suppliers of assistive devices and equipment need to remain aware of bodily changes, such as a redistribution of body fat, that can accompany physical disability.
