Lansing leaves Fingerhut for NBCi

William J Lansing has been named NBC Internet (NBCi) CEO after he joined the firm following his departure from Fingerhut Companies Inc where he was chairman and CEO. Lansing's responsibilities include managing the daily operations and financial operations of NBCi and expanding the firm through acquisitions, partnerships and alliances. He sits on the the board of various Internet firms and has worked previously with General Electric Co, Prodigy Inc and McKinsey and Co.

Allpets launches online pet industry's first catalog

Article Abstract:

Internet-only-pet-supply retailer Allpets.com has launched a print catalog in an effort to build brand equity. The $2, 92-page book was initially sent to nearly two million Allpets customers, former buyers and prospects whose names were rented from outside lists. The catalog offers customers free shipping on Internet orders, an incentive made by the online retailer to drive traffic to the Allpets' site.

Freeshipping.com, an online shopping service based in Whippany, NJ, hopes to lure more customers into its service with its free shipment offer that is easily indicated in its name. The attractiveness of free shipping is supported by BizRate.com's survey that showed 48% of consumers stating free shipment as the best incentive in e-commerce. The Internet service has an array of over 1 million products and has alliances with Ebags.com, FragranceNet.com, 1bookstreet.com, petsmart.com, Outpost.com and kbtoys.com, among others.
