Direct involvement with people working at all levels of a construction project is extremely important, according to Paul Jennings, who is responsible for managing the refurbishment of the Royal Opera House in London, England. He must work closely with the many committees and decision-makers linked with the scheme, which has a budget of 150 million pounds sterling. He feels that a key element to construction management is creating a framework in which people can communicate at all levels.

Berkeley in talks to buy Battersea site

Article Abstract:

Parkview International, owner of Battersea Power Station in London, England, is believed to have held talks with Berkeley Group about the possibility of selling Battersea Power Station to the latter concern, which plans a 500 million pounds sterling redevelopment. Berkeley already had plans for a 200 million pounds sterling project at the Battersea Wharf site next to the power station. Parkview has confirmed that talks took place, but denies that it plans to sell Battersea Power Station.

Floral rearrangement

Article Abstract:

The 150 million pounds sterling refurbishment of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London, England, will include the conversion of the Floral Hall, a steel and glass structure built in the 1840s, into a split-level front-of-house atrium. The entire structure has been taken down, and will now be rebuilt in the Docklands area of the city. Once completed, the restored hall will be dismantled again and taken back to Covent Garden, where it will be reassembled in Jun 1998.
