Bigger boats carry the market

Article Abstract:

New-boat sales for 1998 was 408,720 in the 40 states surveyed. Sales statistics also revealed an increase in sales for larger boats and a decrease for smaller boats. Overall, the 1998 boat sales declined by 9.1% compared with the 1997 sales mainly because of continued sales decline in the personal watercraft and small-boat categories. The national survey was conducted by Statistical Surveys Inc.

Sales in fourth quarter up - but only slightly: for all of 2003, the market was off 3.6 percent

The registration data compiled by Statistical Surveys Inc. including data from 44 states, representing 94 percent of the US boat market is presented. The total market was down by 3.6 percent but has shown an increase in the fourth quarter of 2003 onwards.

Article Abstract:

New boat sales fell 17.1 percent in the first quarter of 2001 in the fiberglass-14-feet-and-up segment. Sales fell in all major segments. Statistics are provided for sales by manufacturers.
