The key to successful urban redevelopment is linking improvements together with high quality urban design, transportation and accessibility for pedestrians. Public realm landscaping and infrastructure improvements should reflect all the key elements of good design, with procurement procedures being positively used to assist the local economy if possible. All aspects of the design process should have an additional improvement benefit for the local community.

Inner cities watch new administration
Article Abstract:
Part of the British government's urban regenreation scheme, Action for Cities is the City Grant. This was introduced in 1988 and aims to encourage private developers in inner city sites by covering the difference between the value of the site and the estimated costs of development. Almost 250 million pounds sterling has been spent on 270 City grant projects. The new government plans to extend the Action for Cities scheme.
