Down down deeper and down

Article Abstract:

The 23 million pounds sterling construction of Queensberry House in London, England, will include eight floors above ground and a car park with space for 317 cars below ground. The work below ground has had to be planned very carefully as 40 of the surrounding buildings will be affected by subsidence. Noise levels had to be kept to a minimum so nearby offices would not be affected by excess noise. The building work started in January 1995 but the discovery that the walls of the previous underground car park had been attached to other buildings required a complete change of plans.

Space odyssey

The 76 million contract to build the station at London Bridge is regarded as one of the most complicated on the Jubilee Line Extension project, as space is extremely tight. The site has some of the busiest road and rail links in London, and is situated between and below two of London's tallest buildings. However, the finished station will be spacious, with a central concourse between 130 mt long platforms.
