From Victoria to virtual design
Article Abstract:
The UK construction industry has experienced a number of declines during the 20th century. The early years were affected by the First World War and the following depression, when around one out of every three building workers was unemployed. In the aftermath of the Second World War the costs of buildings rose as the damage caused by bombing strikes were rectified. Public building increased in the 1960s but economic decline in the 1970s caused the building price inflation to increase to 107%. The 1980s was a mixed decade of success for some firms and bankruptcy for many others.
