OAA's 1984 Salary Survey: To Earn More, Specialize
Article Abstract:
A salary survey of OAA subscribers finds managers in automated systems earn more than the traditional manager. Other findings, which include other key groups, show a difference in wages between men and women in comparable jobs. Tables show earnings, comparison with the previous survey, self assessment vs. earnings, education vs. earnings, breakdown by age and sex, and preference of fringe benefits. Open surveys found middle managers under-compensated and feeling that upper management received all the rewards. Improving compensation without increasing salaries can be achieved by stock options and performance bonuses.

Office technology is designed to improve staff comfort and morale, whilst increasing productivity and profits. The Scottish Enterprise studied the beneficial effects of flexable office design on 70 of its staff, who were installed in a specially design workplace in 1996. The study revealed staff were very enthusiastic about the new office and it encouraged them to increase productivity through reduced time spent on organisational procedures. Communication improved with both employees and customers.

American women have not attained the US presidential position despite their brilliance and skill. The US political structure includes a symbolic and ceremonial image: white, Anglo-Saxon Protestant. Women such as Mary McLeod Bethune and Eleanor Roosevelt could have filled the position with ease.
