Odd job men
Article Abstract:
Building Conservation Consultant Brian Ridout uses his expertise in entomology to study living organisms in buildings. Ridout often works in historical buildings trying to discover why they decaying and suggesting ways of correcting the damage, without major reconstruction work or the excessive use of chemicals. Abseiling Engineer Chris Flewitt is an engineering geologist who uses his skills as a climber to examine parts of buildings which have difficult access, such as lighthouses. Now Glasgow feels the pinch
Article Abstract:
A shortage of skilled labour is emerging in the construction industry in Scotland. This is in turn pushing up construction costs. Labour is relatively mobile in Scotland, and contractors willing to pay high wages can generally obtain the staff they require. However, it is clear that the skills pool is limited. Building activity seems to be focusing on Glasgow, Scotland, and this situation is likely to last until at least 2001.
