Groups unite to forge marina accreditation

Article Abstract:

Marina industry organizations are uniting to forge accreditation program for marinas and boat-repair yards. Their objective is to certify marinas and yards in best management prpactices, environmental compliance, physical plant, legal compliance, customer service and overall stewardship of the boating customer's experience. The different groups have decided to form a steering committee to coordinate all their efforts under one controlling body.

Sail America has launched a new marketing brochure that targets nonboaters. The move is an effort to help sailing schools and sailboat dealers promote their products as well as the boating lifestyle itself. Sail America plans to draw people who are new to sailing by situating the brochures in every single place where a sailing event is taking place. The brochures are seen also as a way to elevate the level of professionalism among all schools and dealers.

Industry gains ground in talks with EPA

Article Abstract:

The boatbuilding industry has received the approval of the EPA regarding a proposed policy for styrene and other air pollutants. The EPA has agreed with industry proposals and offered its guidance on the proposals where it felt more data are needed. Boatbuilders represented by the NMMA Clean Air Task Force met with the EPA and discussed issues concerning hazardous air pollutants. A draft boat-manufacturing maximum achievable control technology position paper was presented by the task force to the NMMA.
