Sea-Doo wins NTSB kudo for its 35-mph governor
Article Abstract:
The National Transportation Safety Board has complimented Bombardier Recreational Products' Sea-Doo personal watercraft (PWC) for having a technology that prevents children or novice operators from running a PWC capable of 60 mph to run more than 35 mph. Bombardier developed a lanyard that hinders the engine from revving more than 5,000 rpm or 32-34 mph. The lanyard is a cord between the operator and the craft and is plugged into the PWC. The lanyard puts the PWC into an idle, circling mode if the operator tumbles off.

Industry won't support federal muffler law
Article Abstract:
Coast Guard and the Environmental Protection Agency have not reframed any laws relating to boat engine noise, despite such appeals from the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators, and Bluewater Network, an environmental group. The proposals would require the boat building industry to install muffled engines. Most of the boats building companies are already installing the quieter engines, however, the operators are choosing to remove the muffling arrangements.
