Article Abstract:
Ex-Ministry of Defence houses are being sold to the public in a low-cost housing scheme run by Annington Homes, which purchased 58,000 properties in 1996 for 1.7 billion pounds sterling. Almost no major work has been done to the houses, which were originally built during the 1940s. New kitchens, bathrooms and windows have been put in, although the lack of modern fixtures and fittings does not deter potential buyers who are pleased with the extra large rooms and gardens. A four-bedroomed house costs about 93,000 pounds sterling, while a 2-bedroomed terraced property sells for about 62,000 pounds sterling.

Article Abstract:
McCarthy and Stone completed its Bay Court retirement apartment development in Falmouth, England, in Oct 1996. The block has four floors, with the apartments being set out like rooms in hotel corridors. Considerable emphasis has been placed on insulation and security, and the 150 mm concrete slab floor prevents noise travelling from floor to floor. There is a range of services for residents, including a communal lounge and a laundry.
