Independent builders fare well

Article Abstract:

A survey showed that most large boatbuilders lose new-boat market share in 1999, while independent builders did well. These big companies include Brunswick Corp, Outboard Marine Corp, Genmar Holdings Inc and Tracker Marine. Brunswick, however, still topped the list for most number of boats sold. The survey also revealed that aside from fiberglass boats, luxury and aluminum boats posted strong sales.

The deck boat, with a combination of a family friendly pontoon boat with the speed and versatility of a runabout, has captured a good share of family boating market. The leader of the deck boat segment is Godfrey Marine, which has a 33 percent market share and sells boats under Hurricane name.
