Study: DM sales growing fastest in Mexico, Asia

Article Abstract:

A recent study released by the Direct Marketing Assn shows international direct marketing sales are growing fastest in Mexico and the Asia-Pacific region. Mexico is expected to register the highest growth rate in direct marketing annual sales, at 32.3% each year from 2002 to 2005. Next to Mexico is the Philippines, which is projected to experience a 28.2% yearly rise in direct marketing sales for the same period. The other countries in the top five are also in the Asia-Pacific region, namely, Malaysia, South Korean and Hong Kong.

Nebraska governor signs ban on prize fees

Article Abstract:

Direct mailers and telemarketers are banned from charging consumers fees in prize promotions. The ruling is embodied in a bill passed by Nebraska's state legislature and signed by Gov Mike Johanns in Mar 2001. Violations of the law, the Telemarketing and Prize Promotions Act, would entail civil fines of up to $2,000 per violation and would take effect 90 days after the end of the legislative session scheduled for Jun 1, 2001.

The success of Port Huron Hospital, in Port Huron, Michigan has spurred a shift in marketing strategy from mass media to mail. It targeted postcards to increase its referrals for orthopedic services that increased the number of people of attending their orthopedic health seminars.
