The great sack race
Article Abstract:
A downturn in the level of profit generated from contractor overheads has forced many of the large UK construction companies to axe contractor jobs, despite the market generally being exceptional buoyant in the early part of 2000. Cashflow problems could be an issue for some firms which are expected to have to pay out millions of pounds sterling in redundancy payments. The job cuts have come at the same time as the industry copes with a shortage of skilled labout.
