The new balance of power
Article Abstract:
The UK's electricians have been placed in a strong bargaining position as a result of increasing workloads and a rise in the amount of mechanical and electrical work needed in new buildings. Electricians are now able to demand improvements in wages and working conditions, and some are becoming very militant. Indeed, some mechanical and electrical firms are now unwilling to tender for large projects in London, England, because they fear that they could be blackmailed by militant electricians. It has become common for electricians to earn more than the agreed rate of 7.55 pounds sterling an hour, and this is forcing contractors to work on reduced margins.
