USPS board OKs tryout of magazine ride-alongs

Article Abstract:

The US Postal Service's Board of Governors has approved a two-year test of a lower ride-along mailing rate for magazine mailers that piggyback promotional materials or catalogs on their magazine mailings. The service would charge periodical mailers a flat fee of $0.10 for every ride-along piece that accompanies a magazine. The ride-along piece must weigh no more than 3.3 ounces and must not be more than the weight of the host magazine. The proposed service must still be approved by the Postal Rate Commission.

Court dismisses case against PCH

Article Abstract:

The US District Court in Ohio has dismissed a case against Publishers Clearing House (PCH) filed by a man who insisted that a PCH mailing constituted a contract to award him a $10 million prize. US District Court Judge Dan Aaron Polster, who handled the case, said he rejected the man's claim since there were clear messages and directions throughout the mailing indicating it was not a contract. Polster added that the man chose to ignore the word 'DRAFT' superimposed over both pages of the letter.
