Westrec claims REIT pullout is no big deal

Article Abstract:

Denver, CO-based real estate investment trust (REIT), Commercial Assets Inc (CAI), has announced that it is pulling out its $2.5 million investment in Westrec Marina Managemet Inc. Officials of the REIT have decided to focus on the manufactured housing market after seeing the slow return on investment in the overpriced marina market. Westrec officials, on the other hand, believe that CAI's pullout will not significantly affect the financial standing of the company and are considering stock buyback.

Lowrance will go it alone

Article Abstract:

Chicago, IL-based electronic parts and equipment manufacturer Cobra Electronics Corp. has called off a proposed $53-million merger with Tulsa, OK-based global positioning systems maker Lowrance Electronics Inc. Cobra Electronics cited Lowrance Electronics' continuing failure to achieve financial targets in cancelling the deal. This development represents the second failed merger attempt for Lowrance since 1999. The firm is a leader in the global positioning system and sonar markets.

BTI takes 'poison pill' against French company

Article Abstract:

Brunswick Technologies Inc (BTI) has implemented measures to prevent a hostile takeover bid initiated by CertainTeed Corp, a division of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain of France. On Apr 17, CertainTeed offered $8 per share in cash, a 46% premium over BTI's closing price on Apr 14 and also issued a tender offer for all 5.2 million outstanding common shares of BTI not already owned by Vetrotex CertainTeed Corp.
