Zero hour

Article Abstract:

Aiming for zero-defect build brings significant challenges, according to Beazer Group Chief Executive Dennis Webb. However, his company is prepared to back up its new commitment to zero-defect build with financial compensation if homes are not completed to the purchaser's satisfaction by a given date. Under its 'Beazer Plus Promise', the company will also give a guarantee under which the period of warranty for everything in the house is fully itemized on certificate. Webb believes that standards should be just as high in house construction as anywhere else.

It's a mistery

Article Abstract:

It is becoming widely recognized in the UK that problems can arise if sealed double glazing units are fixed in timber windows using a fully bedded system. In many cases, contractors are unable or unwilling to achieve the full specification for sealed unit double glazing, and it is common for glaziers not to fix compound on both the upstand and the back of the bead. Furthermore, problems can arise if glazing is fitted in wet conditions.

YRM's Prague hotel in trouble

Article Abstract:

The decision by the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development to not support the 40 million pounds sterling luxury hotel project in Prague as it stands at present has caused considerable problems for architect YRM. The bank is calling for the scheme to be reduced in size and for a realistic project cost to be submitted. YRM admits that part of the scheme, an office block development, may now have to be abandoned.
