How to buy a mobile phone

Article Abstract:

Cellular telephone digital networks in Australia will comply with the Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) when the analogue system is discontinued in most areas Jan 1, 2000. Analogue will continue in rural areas until the end of 2000. Three digital networks are currently available: Telstra, Optus and Vodaphone. In selecting one of these, it is important to know what areas it covers. It is critical to understand what is offered in the calling plan and what it offers. This includes the costs for the handset, connection fee, monthly access fee, call charges, and other fees for using call diversion and voice mail.
