An evaluation of the major multi-user fax systems available in the UK is presented in alphabetical order. The list includes Techland Group's FACSys, a high-end network-fax, open client-server system, The software contains many important features, including a powerful viewer and flexible cover-page customization. Other multi-user fax systems are evaluated.

There are several computer-fax packages available in the UK, including Wordcraft International Ltd.'s LaserFAX Windows-based system. LaserFax 3.5 is able to support up to 512 networked users, although it is best limited to around 250. Other PC-fax software includes Symantec Corp.'s WinFax PRO 8.0 and TalkWorks 8.0 telephony system.

The software can run on portable and desktop computers, but require sound cards and microphones. The best results from speech-recognition systems are obtained on a Pentium P133MHz.
