A Welcome Mat for Leprosy and Lassa Fever
Article Abstract:
In both leprosy and Lassa fever a causative agent binds to target cells by interacting with a common receptor called alpha-dystroglycan. Research indicates that Lassa fever virus binds directly to the receptor, making cells susceptible to viral infection. The bacterium that causes leprosy binds to the receptor via an intermediary called laminin-2.
