Out-of-hours care
Article Abstract:
Doctors in general practice (GPs) provide out-of-hours emergency care for their patients via either a deputizing service, which a commercial company will operate for a fee, or a GP co-operative where a number of practices collaborate to arrange out-of-hours cover over a large area. Co-operatives often work from local hospitals or may have their own purpose-built facilities. Services are provided either as telephone advice if the problem is a minor one, home visits or patients are asked to visit a medical centre. Serious medical emergencies will receive face-to-face care.

Recession's swings and roundabouts
Article Abstract:
Many licensed leisure premises have gone out of business during the recession. Hotel and public house values have dropped and banks are unwilling to finance loans. Regional brewers are taking advantage of enforced sales by the large brewers. However, some large companies are arranging supply agreements and the Monopolies and Mergers Commission's aim to provide more consumer choice and cheaper prices may have the opposite effect.
