Plug into cheaper power: By July, British consumers will be able to choose who supplies their electricity-but how much can you save by switching to a new company?
Article Abstract:
All households in England, Scotland and Wales will be able to choose their electricity supplier by July, and money can be saved by swapping company. The highest saving to be made by swapping to a different company based on a typical household's average annual electricity usage of 3,300kWh a year is 43 pounds sterling year. More savings can be made by purchasing both electricity and gas from the same supplier, although energy companies are usually competitive for one fuel type but not both. To choose the company that will offer the biggest savings, standing charges and unit rates, usage, method of payment and cheap rate electricity should be considered.

Gas - choose a better deal
Article Abstract:
Research has revealed that since deregulation of the UK gas industry in May 1998, 56% of consumers have considered switching supplier, with 16% having actually switched or initiated the switching process. Lower costs were cited as the main reason for making the switch, although good customer care was also a priority. Beacon Gas ranked most successful company for overall customer satisfaction, followed by Scottish Power and SWEB Gas.
