The pagers

Article Abstract:

Pagers are available as tone, alpha-numeric or numeric only and there are four UK paging services providers. Among them are Vodafone and British Telecommunications. Alpha-numeric pagers are the most sophisticated, the most expensive and the most popular types of pagers. They are able to display both letters and numbers, allowing more information to be sent. Tone pagers are the cheapest pagers available but are unable to display messages. Numeric pagers, with liquid crystal displays, either display telephone numbers or a number coded message.

Getting the message

Article Abstract:

Paging is an efficient and fast method of transmitting short messages to mobile workers. While not as glamorous as mobile phones, they are more discreet and have lower costs. The three main types of pagers are tone pagers, alphanumeric pagers and numeric pagers. Typically, pagers can store more messages than mobile phones, display longer messages and have a longer battery life.
