Article Abstract:

The Melissa computer virus began to spread through the world's computer systems in March 1999. It operates by linking itself to a Global Template file and proceeds onto the Document Open command so it is activated each time a new file is opened. Despite the harm it can do, Melissa does not destroy PC data, software or hardware. Tips for avoiding damage from Melissa and other computer viruses are presented.

Laptops are discussed with emphasis on their use of power and ways to conserve and manage it. Increasingly laptops are becoming more powerful and ways are needed to prolong battery life such as screen savers and sleep modes.
