FRANCE: INDIVIDUAL SACHETS GAIN IN FOOD SECTOR
Article Abstract:
Individual portions are gaining ground on the powdered or freeze-dried food products market. These individual portions first appeared in France on the sugar market in 1997. Since then it has conquered other segments such as coffee (with Nescafe in 1998), baby cereals (with Bledina's baby cereals in 1999) and cooking ingredients with Maggi in 2000. The success of individual portions is due to three factors: the eliminate the need to measure, improved hygiene, and reduction of packaging. Their size ranges from 5 to 20 millimetres in diameter and from 80 to 150 millimetres long. They can be made of paper or polyethylene for sugar or for polyethylene teraphtalate/aluminium/polyethylene complexes for products which need substantial barriers.

FRANCE: NORD-EST SELLS ALIZOL
Article Abstract:
The Nord-Est group has continued to consolidate on its core health packaging and deluxe packaging businesses, and has sold Alizol, which packages health products, cosmetics, and cleaning products, to the Chimiotechnic group. Alizol makes EUR 51.5mn in turnover. This move allows Nord-Est to focus on the health and deluxe packaging markets, consolidated under its Ileos subsidiary. This activity represents FFr 1.3bn in turnover, and it has acquired four companies since 1999. These are Innocos, the German de luxe stopper manufacturer; Imprim'Etic which makes labels, Niob Plastic which makes stoppers, and Raffypack which makes deluxe boxes. Nord-Est is not ruling out making more acquisitions particularly in the fields of labels, cardboard articles and sampling in Europe and the United States.
