FRANCE: REVIEW OF PHARMACEUTICAL PACKAGING
Article Abstract:
Glass and plastic are the two most-used medication packaging materials, especially for new products. Glass is favoured for its 'neutrality.' Saint-Gobain Desjonqueres has developed a new neutral type I glass to strengthen this property. This glass contains only 2% aluminium oxide, compared with 6% in standard glass, which limits the amount of aluminium salted out from the glass. Plastic is liked for a lightness, strength, its solidity, and its low cost as well as for its humidity and gas barrier qualities. Plastic packaging will soon offer new services, such as Airsec's 2AP, new plastic which includes humidity absorbers.

Hausse de 34% du recyclage du PSE
Article Abstract:
The total volume of PSE packaging is worth an estimated 31,000 tons in France. Out of this total, about 8,000 tons are burnt while the recycling rate is going up. In 1997, 3,620 tons of PSE packaging were recycled in France, up 34% over the year before according to Eco-PSE, the entity in charge of the PSE recycling in France. For the first time ever in 1997, fish and fruit and vegetable crates and other dirty industrial packaging were significant contributors to the total volume recycled, the same as domestic packaging with 20 tons collected, Eco-PSE reports.
