FRANCE: REVIEW OF PLASTIC PACKAGING MARKET
Article Abstract:
The plastics share of packaging is expected to continue rise in the years to come, particularly in food packaging. For example, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) already has a 57% volume market share for carbonated beverages in France, and is expected to continue to grow, particularly for beer, milk, and beauty products. The five leading companies in the sector together make only nearly FFr 6bn, or 20% of the plastic packaging in France. Pechiney leads, with a turnover of FFr 1.803bn, followed by Aptar with FFr 1.4bn, Rexam with FFr 1.139bn, Crown Cork with FFr 1.112bn, and Knauf with FFr 728mn. Knauf specialises in expanded polystyrene and has invested FFr 60mn in the construction of a new alveolar resin moulding plant at Saint-Jeoires.
