Developmental stability is related to fitness

Article Abstract:

A study concludes that there is a negative correlation between developmental stability and fitness, a finding that is supported by meta-analyses of existing data. An increasing interest in the application of developmental instability as a means of understanding queries in such fields as evolution, ecology, human and animal medicine and animal conservation and welfare is being fueled by a belief that it will be able to provide clues to the coping mechanisms employed by populations and individuals.

On the limited breeding opportunities hypothesis for avian clutch size

Article Abstract:

The limited breeding opportunities hypothesis for avian clutch size was tested with a study of cavity-nesting birds. Although the results of the study did demonstrate the veracity of the hypothesis, it was limited since the percentage of excavated nests is an indirect index of nest site limitations. Two other important variables, the number and density of nest competitors and availability of cavities were not integrated into the study.
