Abnormal reverse faulting above a depleting reservoir
Article Abstract:
Pumping of hydrocarbon fields cause subsurface deformation. Research findings indicate that subsidence is generally centered over the field and commonly associated with centripetal and horizontal displacements and faulting. This finding further establishes the direct relationship between earthquakes and oil field fluid extraction. Gradual depletion of an oil field reservoir may result in the formation of steeply dipping reverse faults that, in turn, cause seismicity within a given area.

Neotectonic faulting in metropolitan Toronto: implications for earthquake hazard assessment in the Lake Ontario region
Article Abstract:
The recent discovery of normal faults along the Rouge Valley in metropolitan Toronto have resulted in the reassessment of regional seismic hazards in southern Ontario. These reactivated east-west oriented Ordovician shale fractures resulted from uplift due to isostatic rebound and horizontal compression. The area is marked by elevated seismicity and the intersection of three major lineaments. Other faults may remain undetected due to the absence of surface structures.

Active faulting at Delphi, Greece: seismotectonic remarks and a hypothesis for the geologic environment of a myth
Article Abstract:
The Helice earthquake of 373 B.C. ruptured the master fault of the Gulf of Corinth but the antithetic fault at Delphi. The famous oracular cave of this region may have been an ancient tectonic rupture.
