High-pressure size exclusion chromatography analysis of dissolved organic matter isolated by tangential-flow ultrafiltration
Article Abstract:
Analysis of dissolved organic matter (DOM) isolated by tangential-flow ultrafiltration (TFUF) using high-pressure size-exclusion chromatography is discussed. Proton-exchanged DOM retentates were smaller than for untreated samples. The TFUF system used seems to be effective as a means to isolate aquatic DOM by size, but ultimate size of retentates may be affected by metals in the environments and by configurations unique to the DOM phase

Modelling cadmium accumulation by benthic invertebrates in situ: the relative contributions of sediment and overlying water reservoirs to organism cadmium concentrations
Article Abstract:
Use of water column rather than sedimentary cadmium concentrations would yield more accurate predictions of Cd concentrations in most benthic invertebrates. An in situ experiment is discussed in which the acid volatile sulfide model was tested and the relative importance of sediment and overlying waters to Cd concentrations in benthic organisms was determined.
