Bioavailability of wetland-derived DON to freshwater and marine bacterioplankton
Article Abstract:
Bioavailability of wetland-derived dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) to freshwater and marine bacterioplankton is discussed as studied using a bioassay strategy based on natural DON and bacterial inocula in artificial fresh- and seawater media varied to make nitrogen the limiting nutritional factor. DON is apparently susceptible to bacterial mineralization and susceptibility increases as DON goes from fresh waters into saline environments.

Isotopic composition of nitrate in the central Arabian Sea and eastern tropical North Pacific: a tracer for mixing and nitrogen cycles
Article Abstract:
A study is reported of the delta-15 N composition of nitrate and N2 gas in suboxic regions of the eastern tropical North Pacific and the central Arabian Sea, with a focus on mixing and nitrogen cycles. Topics include nitrate fractionation during denitrification, signals of denitrification in oxic waters, and nitrogen fixation in surface waters.
