Climate change and implications for agriculture in Niger
Article Abstract:
The changes in the patterns and events of rainfall, the rainy season and climatic water balance in Niger was analyzed based on long-term daily rainfall data. The agricultural implications of climate changes are discussed using a case study on the cereal crop pearl millet. It was found that the timing of rainfall is crucial for millet growth and yield. Moreover, accelerated environmental degradation may result from persistence of low rainfall.

High-frequency climatic variability and crop yields
Article Abstract:
Climatic variations such as changes in precipitation levels and atmospheric temperature influence agriculture. High temperature variability affects photosynthesis and dormancy in perennial plants while precipitation variability impacts soil water retention and infiltration. The influence of climatic variability on crop yields and development can be simulated through General Circulation Models.
