Svenn Orvig: 1920-1998
Article Abstract:
Meteorologist Svenn Orvig passed away on May 28, 1998 in Kingston, Ontario. He as born in Bergen, Norway, on Aug 4, 1920 and served in the Norwegian Air Force during World War II. He studied geophysics after the war and became well-versed on energy exchanges between the earth's surface and the atmosphere. He became an associate professor in the geography department of McGill University in 1957 and became a charter member of the Dept of Meteorology. Later, in cooperation with Eberhard Vowinckel, he formulated mathematical models which represent the energy exchanges.

Guy Arthur Franceschini: 1918-1998
Article Abstract:
Meteorologist Guy Franceschini died on Apr 4, 1998. He was born on Apr 2, 1918 in North Adams, MA. He served as a weather observer and forecaster for the US Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945. He obtained a degree in physics from the University of Massachusetts in 1950 and later received his MS in meteorology in 1952 at the University of Chicago. He earned his PhD in 1961 and became full professor at the Texas A&M University in 1969. His main research interest was in atmosphere-ocean energy exchanges.
