A pre-caldera plateau-andesite field in the Borrowdale Volcanic Group of the English Lake District
Article Abstract:
An analysis was conducted to examine rocks from the Borrowdale Volcanic Group. The group can be classified as part of a single stratigraphic unit, the Birker Fell Formation. Stratigraphic composition is 60% andesitic, with interwoven sequences of volcanic detritus and some exposures of volcaniclastic sedimentary rocks. Analysis shows that the formation entrenched as a sub-aerial plateau-andeiste sequence and conditioned by volcano-tectonic faulting and ignimbrite eruptions.

An Acadian mountain front in the English Lake District: the Westmorland Monocline
Article Abstract:
The Westmorland Monocline, a southeast facing monocline in the English Lake District of UK, is a highly fractured stratigraphic unit that separates the Borrowdale Volcanic Group from the Windermere Group. It is believed that the monocline, which has the characteristics of a mountain front, has been formed as a consequence of a southeast-verging thrust during the Acadian (late lower Devonian) causing an uplift of 8 km combined with a major horizontal shorteningof the crust.
