Discussion on indications of glaciation at the base of the proterozoic Stoer Group (Torridonian), NW Scotland
Article Abstract:
Several corrections on the interpretations of the Stoer Group on Torridonian glacial deposits were established. 'Roches moutonnees,' which were analyzed to follow a parallel ice-flow direction, were also found to make transverse directions. A poor degree of sorting dropstones and facies as well as the identification of diamictite and clast roundness were also pointed out. Furthermore, the analysis that compressive stress is responsible for glacial hydrofracturing was also contested.

Discussion on dating the transition of smectite to illite in Palaeozoic mudrocks using the Rb-Sr whole-rock technique
Article Abstract:
The Rb-Sr whole-rock technique has been used to quantify the variable time intervals between burial, smectite-illite transition in mudrocks and cleavage formation/uplift in the Welsh Basin during the Palaeozoic period. Statistically conclusive data are available to confirm the tilt geometries suggested by the smectite-illite dates. Maximum illite crystallinity is concluded to be of an early contractional timing.
