Electronic publishing initiatives of the AMS
Article Abstract:
The American Meteorological Society (AMS) has been taking steps to take full advantage of the capabilities of electronic publishing. As part of this commitment, the AMS allows contributors to send in their articles in electronic format. The AMS also has a number of CD-ROM products, such as the Meteorological and Geoastrophysical Abstracts, a bibliographic research tool for atmospheric and oceanic sciences researchers. The AMS also publishes an electronic journal called 'Earth Interactions' and maintains an Internet home page at http://www.ametsoc.org/AMS.

Mission to Planet Earth attacked at authorization meeting
Article Abstract:
The House Science Subcommittee on Space's initial hearing on the authorization of NASA's Mission to Planet Earth was enlivened by a spirited protest from the CATO Institute's Edward Hudgins. Hudgins claimed that the program hides a political agenda and is being used as an excuse by NASA to continue asking for funds. Subcommittee Democrats protested that they had not been given sufficient notice to prepare for Hudgins' sudden addition to the witness panel, and their complaint was supported by Subcommittee Chmn Dana Rohrabacher.
