Elbert W. Friday Jr. was ousted from the post of director of the National Weather Service on Jun 25, 1997. National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) undersecretary James Baker, following the order of Dept of Commerce Secretary William M. Daley, reassigned Friday to the position of assistant administrator for NOAA's Oceanic and Atmospheric Research, replacing Alan R. Thomas.

Iceland has a reputation for being cold and expensive, and this can deter potential visitors. In fact, it is well worth visiting. It offers attractions such as hot springs, glaciers and volcanoes, and has spectacular scenery. It is particularly interesting for fans of William Morris, who visited it in the 1870s and was very inspired by it.
