Further discussion on Mesozoic cover over northern England: interpretation of apatite fission track data
Article Abstract:
There is no evidence that apatite samples from northern England started to cool as late as 30 Ma. Therefore, data presented by Green and Lewis are valid together with data obtained from the East Irish Sea Basin and the surrounding regions. A detailed review of the apatite fission track data for individual samples reaffirm that cooling started at around 60 t0 70 Ma. It is also wrong to speculate that cooling during late Cretaceous to early Tertiary was taken from a model. The model was formulated to explain the meaning of the data.

Relative sea-level changes and the development of a Cambrian transgression
Article Abstract:
Relative sea-level changes during lower Cambrian controlled the deposition of sedimentary units in northwest Scotland. Stratigraphy of the area consisted of basal transgressive quartz arenite, storm dominated Fucoid Beds (orthoquartzite-carbonate succession), tidal sandstones and the mudstone- sandstone sequences of the Salterella Grit. These variable facies reflect the total depositional evolution of a broadly transgressive sequence over a peneplained pre-Cambrian basement.
