Solute transport in sediments by freshwater infaunal bioirrigators
Article Abstract:
A study of solute exchange between sediments and overlying water involving freshwater chironomid larvae Coelotanyptus sp. and Chironomus plumosus and the mayfly larvae Hexagenia limbata has been conducted. Models of solute transport discussed include an enhanced diffusion model, a cylindrical diffusion model and a nonlocal solute exchange model.

Exopolymer production by intertidal epipelic diatoms
Article Abstract:
Intertidal epipelic diatoms' production of exopolymers is discussed, along with production rates of colloidal carbohydrates and glucan. The study involved axenic monocultures of Cylindrotheca closterium, Navicula perminuta, and Nitzschia sigma.
