Internal versus external causes of dynamics in a freshwater plant-herbivore system
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine cyclic fluctuations involving Daphnia and their algal prey set in freshwater systems. The study attempts to establish the case when separate populations converge as they are generated in a specific environment. Results show that correlated dynamics exist for Daphnia and their algal populations when started in similar periods while no similar relationship was observed for those set in staggered times.

Biomass distribution in freshwater plankton communities
Article Abstract:
Resource control of heterotrophic regulation and heterotrophic biomass of plants shows that the heterotrophic to autotrophic ratio (H/A ratio) in freshwater plankton communities is markedly above unity but it gradually declines along the gradient of increasing phytoplankton biomass. The gradient of food supply made of detrital carbon as dissolved organic carbon and algal biomass is followed by heterogeneity of biomass.

Dispersed versus central-place foraging: intra- and intercolonial competition in the strategy of trunk trail arrangement of a harvester ant
Article Abstract:
An investigation of the arrangement of trunk trails in Messor barbarus, a species of harvester ants, which reside in nests with several entrances, indicates the influence of competitive interactions within the colony and with neighboring colonies on trunk trail patterns. A consideration of the dispersed and central-place foraging models enables an assessment of both the intra- and inter-colonial competitions.
