Kornerupine parageneses in whiteschists and other magnesian rocks: is kornerupine + talc a high-pressure assemblage equivalent to tourmaline + orthoamphibole?

Article Abstract:

The kornerupine + talc assemblage is reportedly in rocks in six localities worldwide. However, textural relationships, only at Chilapila Hill in the Lufilian Arc, Zambia, suggest that Krn equilibrated with Tlc during a metamorphic event. The stability range of Krn + Tlc in P-T space was determined and Krn + Tlc associations compared, while chemical factors that could affect the stability of Krn + Tlc in relation to tourmaline + orthoamphibole were also analyzed. Results indicate that the Krn + Tlc assemblage could be more significant in B-bearing whiteschists than so far reported.

Phase relationships in Buchan facies series pelitic assemblages: calculations with application to andalusite-staurolite parageneses in the Mount Lofty Ranges, South Australia

Article Abstract:

Andalusite-staurolite parageneses in Mount Lofty Ranges, Australia can be used to determine regional metamorphism of pelitic rocks. Spatial distribution and mineral chemical variation of andalusite-staurolite formations gave similar results as those with calculations involving petrogenetic grids and pressure-temperature conditions of metamorphic rocks. The pressure-temperature grid and other variables involved in metamorphic zonation are useful in obtaining data sets that resemble those taken naturally.

High-density CO2-N2 inclusions in eclogite-facies metasediments of the Munchberg gneiss complex, SE Germany

Article Abstract:

An analysis describing eclogite-facies metasedimentary rocks is presented. The study examined a gneiss complex found in Munchberg, Germany. Examination showed that the formation contained CO2-N2 fluid inclusions with extremely low molar volumes in quartz. However, such rock types are often composed of H2O-rich inclusions correlating with amphibolite-facies conditions. It is shown that fluid composition variations generate local fluid gradients.
