Long-term climate monitoring by the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS): report of Breakout Group C - climate impacts
Article Abstract:
A special group called Breakout Group C from the workshop on long-range climate data needs identified the need for the Global Climate Observing System to develop a mechanism for tailoring climate data and information products to spatial and temporal scales to meet the requirements for impact assessment. Among their recommendations are the development of indices of leading climate indicators and emphasis on the development and use of long-term global products such as meteorological satellites to establish long-term trends in climate.

Long-term climate monitoring by the Global Climate Observing System: report of Breakout Group B - climate responses and feedbacks
Article Abstract:
A special group called Breakout Group B from the workshop on long-range climate data needs discussed and formulated recommendations on the application of the Global Climate Observing System with respect to the other process oriented climate programs within different user communities. The recommendations focused on the various methods for accommodating changes in the monitoring, measurement and reporting of data to determine past climate record and to make it available in a more comprehensive form.

Long-term climate monitoring by the Global Climate Monitoring System: report of Breakout Group A - climate forcings and feedbacks
Article Abstract:
A special group called Breakout Group A from the workshop on long-range climate data needs formulated recommendations to address the various issues facing the Global Climate Observing System. The recommendations offer priority activities for a wide range of science areas such as greenhouse gases, water vapor, aerosols and solar radiation. The group also addressed the role of meteorological satellites in ensuring the consistency of climate observations.
