Microfibrous quartz varieties: characterization by quantitative X-ray texture analysis and transmission electron microscopy
Article Abstract:
The fiber elongation direction of microfibrous quartz varieties in materials with narrow bands of thinly spaced radially divergent spherulitic bundles was characterized using quantitative X-ray texture analysis. A transmission electron microscope was used to examine the microstructures of agate samples containing quartzine, chalcedony and pseudochalcedony. Results showed that large concentrations of polysynthetic Brazil twins and domains having a modulated microstructure were present in all types of microfibrous quartz.

Characterization of magnetite particles in shocked quartz by means of electron- and magnetic force microscopy: Vredeforte, South Africa
Article Abstract:
The authors discuss their use of electron microscopy to analyze magnetite particles of shocked quartz. Topics include orientation of quartz grains, formation of microcrystalline phases due to micro-melts, and planar deformation features in quartz.
