Policy statement: planned and inadvertent weather modification
Article Abstract:
Advances in meteorology have made possible the alteration of weather conditions. Supercooled fogs near airports may be seeded while warm fogs may be diminished using thermal methods. Statistics have shown a 10% increase n precipitation coming from supercooled orographic clouds. Regarding attempts to alter severe storms, no effective method has been discovered from researches conducted in the 1980s and 1990s. The American Meteorological Society believes in the ultimate benefits of further research work in planned modifications of weather and climate.

Scientific background for the AMS policy statement on planned and inadvertent weather modification
Article Abstract:
The stance of the American Meteorological Society to continue to search for ways to effectively modify weather is boosted by the benefits garnered from on-going studies. Planned weather modification through cloud seeding has been applied in the dissipation of fogs and low clouds. Unplanned weather alterations such as those that occur due to deforestation and vehicular traffic have been analyzed more accurately through the use of microwave radiometers and other instruments.

Policy statement
Article Abstract:
The American Meteorological Society (AMS) is convinced that existing ozone-control regulations should be modified to reflect the uncertainties that arise due to the interaction between chemistry, radiation and atmospheric dynamics. The organization believes that new regulations should be implemented that will minimize the detrimental effect of human activity on atmospheric ozone. These regulations should be implemented at the local and global basis.
